Funeral service for Nora Elsie Pickard will be 10 a.m., Wed., July 27, at Claremore First Assembly of God with Revs. Dave Mewbourne and Curtis Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Memorial Park, Sand Springs, under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tues. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.
Nora died Sun., July 24, 2011, at Claremore Nursing Home at the age of 95.
The daughter of Bart Columbus and Lula Pearl (Holcomb) Yates was born Oct. 23, 1915, in Bentonville, AR. Nora had five daughters she raised by herself. She retired in 1974 as a prayer partner from Oral Roberts Ministries after 22 years of service. In 1974, Nora moved to Claremore. She was a member of Claremore First Assembly of God. For many years Nora was a Sunday School teacher at Sand Springs First Assembly of God. Nora enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was known for her pies and cakes. Nora's favorite pastime was reading the Bible.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Irven Yates and Lawrence Yates; sisters: Ora Cayce (Nora's twin), Evelyn Reed, Margaret Cook, and Wanda Rose; grandson: Scott Osborn; and great-granddaughter: Marina Colburn.
Survivors include her daughters: Iva Ballard of Broken Arrow, Peggy Johnson of Claremore, Pearl Cornell of Broken Arrow, Sophie Colburn of Okmulgee, and Sharon Osborn of Tulsa; brother: Ivan Yates of Sand Springs; sisters: Lula Lee of Sand Springs, Clara Whitford of Fort Worth, TX, Jessie Mixon of Tulsa, and Irvena Whitford of Tulsa; 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson.
