Ocey Irene Donaho was born October 31, 1919 to Wiley Augustus Donaho and Lena Mae Butler Donaho in Okemah, Okfuskee County, Oklahoma. Ocey’s early years were spent on a farm near Maysville, Oklahoma where she graduated from high school.
She married Early W. Battles in Pauls Valley, OK on August 27, 1938 and they moved to Talala, OK in 1939 to her father’s farm where her children were born. She and Earl divorced in 1946 and she went to work in Tulsa, OK as a seamstress to be able to raise her children Jimmy, Roxey, and Charles. She then joined American Airlines as a Data Processor in 1948. While working for American Airlines she took a temporary assignment in New York City to help train a new staff there then returned to Tulsa and continued to work for American Airlines until she retired.
After raising her family as a single mother she married Morris A. Pack in Olive, Oklahoma on December 27, 1969. They moved to Chelsea in 1971 to be near Morris’s work and Ocey’s commuted to work in Tulsa until her retirement in 1981 after 36 years of working for American Airlines. They bought a house in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas in 1980 then moved there in 1982. Morris died in 1986 and Ocey continued to live in Arkansas until 1991 when she moved to Heritage Hills Golf Course in Claremore, Oklahoma to be near her daughter and son. While living in Arkansas, Ocey learned to play golf and continued to play after moving to Claremore until her health caused her to stop. She lived in her Claremore home until September 2008 when due to failing health she moved to St. Simeon’s Assisted Living Center in Tulsa and then moved to the St. Simeon’s Memory Center in November 2009 until her death August 15, 2011.
Ocey is survived by her 2 sons, Jimmy Dale Battles (Joyce) Chelsea, OK , Charles Warner Battles (Donna) Sulphur, Louisiana and her daughter Roxey Lee Podpechan (Frank) of Tulsa, OK. Also her sister Joyce Fay Spencer of Olive, Ok as well as her grandchildren Ranee Taylor (James) , Todd Nelson (Ralyn), Tanna Aaron (Bobby), Paula Killough, Travis Battles, Lance Battles, and Coty Battles; her great grandchildren Tara Nelson, Nicole Aaron, Madison Taylor, Jade Nelson, Alex Killough, Tiffany Little, Ty Johnson, Megan Battles, and Cheyenne Battles; and her 6 great-great grandchildren, along with her eleven nieces and nephews.
Ocey is pre-deceased by parents Wiley and Lena Donaho, husband Morris A. Pack and siblings Lorene Stratton, Truman Donaho, Ray Donaho and Kenneth Donaho.
Ocey departed this life on August 15, 2011 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to see her angels and will be laid to rest beside her husband and sister Lorene and brother in-law David Stratton at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Graveside service will be 10 a.m., Fri., Aug. 19, under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thurs. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.
