Patricia Anne Pixley passed away in Claremore on Sunday, December 22, 2024. She was 98 years old. Born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, on January 20, 1926. Patricia’s parents were Paul and Anna (Considine) Humphrey. She was raised and educated in Pawhuska and graduated from Pawhuska High School on May 21, 1943. She went on to attend Saint Mary College in Leavenwoth, KS., where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree on May 28, 1947. While all her roommates at St. Mary’s became nuns, Patricia pursued a brief career in journalism until she married Warren Pixley, on June 11, 1949, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in their hometown of Pawhuska. It was then that her true vocation came to fruition – Homemaker, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and at the time of her death, Great-Great Grandmother. Faith, family and volunteering were her passions. She served in her church, St Cecilia’s Catholic Church, and worked faithfully in the Altar Society. Always seeking opportunities to help others in need, she volunteered faithfully for about 40 years with the Claremore Regional Hospital Auxiliary and Claremore Meals on Wheels. In addition, she was a member and officer of various social and fraternal organizations, including P.E.O., Aladdin Club, Tuesday Study Club, Red and White Club, and was a member of the Board of Regents of Rogers State College from 1987 – 1994.
She always encouraged others to find their purpose and to look for ways to be involved. She was once quoted as saying “You have to not be afraid to jump in; everyone is here for a reason. You need to find out what that reason is for you” … “I can not stand to be idle, and I do not think I have ever been bored”.
Patricia cherished friendships, and worked at lifelong relationships, as proven by the many cards, letters, and other correspondence that she accumulated over the years. She made and kept friends by being a friend and a confidant, praying for those in need and lending a hand whenever it was needed.
The blessings that Patricia’s family received from her are impossible to count. She is survived by her five children: Paul Pixley (Beverly); Mary Warden (Tom); Ruth Stone ( Ross); John Pixley (Kathy); Joseph Pixley (Chantal); thirteen grandchildren: John Wilson (Gen); Chris Pixley (Aubree); Mark Pixley (Tara); Keith Cagle (Julie); Matt Cagle (Ashley); Doug Stone(Ashley); Greg Stone (Sara); Jeff Stone (Marlene); Sarah Pixley Carter (Seth); Patrick Pixley; Lauren Pixley; Kaitlyn Pixley; Jack Pixley; fifteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Nephews: Tom (Deidre) Keirstead; Bill (Erica) Keirstead.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Warren Pixley, founder of Pixley Lumber Company; and her sister Mary and husband Ralph Keirstead.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Courtyards at Claremore for the kind and exceptional care that was afforded Patricia the past five plus years. We would also like to thank Transitions Hospice for the dedication and care they have given to Patricia and all the family this past year.
