The son of Harold and Jewell Inman Bates was born March 4, 1942 in Alluwe, Oklahoma. As a young man he attended Alluwe schools graduating with the class of 1960. After graduation Paul quickly began his working career. He began working as a roughneck in the local oil fields. A short time later while on a double date with his friend he met Mary Bible. They married July 26, 1963 in Nowata. They made their home in Chelsea, except for a brief stay in Illinois. Once back in Oklahoma he began driving a propane truck. However just a short time later he found himself working for the local coal mine. In the early part of the 1990's as the coal business was slowing down, Paul took a job working for Baker Hughes in Claremore. He worked there as a machinist until retiring in 2005. In his spare time, Paul loved to fish and camp. His favorite destination was Creede Colorado. He and his family loved camping there along the river. Paul was know as a great family man and friend who's laugh and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
