Born July 26, 1933 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Hilliard Hightower and Ellen Marie (Messer) Stephens, Paul attended school in his birth community, graduation with the class of 1951. Following his schooling, he began working as a painter, and while in California he helped paint the Golden Gate Bridge. In January, 1973 he married Valeta Marie Skidmore, and the couple eventually made Claremore their home.
When time allowed, Paul liked to fish and hunt. He was quite the handy man and wood worker. Although a quiet man, Paul could be the biggest tease and joker around. He loved spending time with people and was truly interested in what they had to say. His best quality was his giving nature and helping folks with anything they needed; the biggest recipient of his loving kindness was Valeta.
Those family members that survive include his wife of 47 years, Valeta; son Roger Wagoner and wife Darlene; and daughter-in-law Patricia Wagoner; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, son Larry Wagoner, three sisters and one brother.
