Services celebrating the life of Pauline Eula George will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 30, 2014 in the chapel at MMS-Payne Funeral Home and Cremation Service; burial will follow at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1—8, with family receiving visitors from 6—8. Pauline passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the age of 92.
Born April 6, 1921 in Tahlequah to William Harley and Bell “Sisco” Shrum, Pauline received her education at Justus School. On August 5, 1939 she married Clarence Day and the couple moved to Sulphur Springs, Arkansas and their daughter Norma Jean was born while living there. The family moved back to Claremore around 1946 and Pauline worked at the Rexall Drug Store. A short time was spent in Coffeyville, Kansas before returning to Claremore and this has been home since. Clarence passed away in 1979 and in 1990 Pauline married Bert George and Claremore remained home. Bert passed away in 2000 and in 2006 Pauline moved to the Will Rogers Senior Apartments. She has enjoyed life there and the family-like atmosphere that Pauline said was just like living in a sorority.
Pauline kept very busy throughout the years with activities at her church, Blue Starr Church of Christ. She volunteered her time in the food room, distributing food to the needy. She also enjoyed traveling, day trips to Arkansas and working newspaper puzzles. Always ready to lend a helping hand, Pauline would run an errand for her friends at the drop of a hat. She never felt old, and never told her age. Her exact words were “age is just a number and mine is unlisted”.
A kind, caring and loving mother, grandmother and friend, Pauline will be missed by all who knew her. Those family members that survive include her daughter Norma Jean Derr of Tulsa; her grandsons Brian Derr and Michael Derr both of Tulsa; her brother’s–in-law Marvin Day of Coventry, Rhode Island and Glen Day of Springfield, Missouri and many nieces and nephews. Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Clarence Day and Bert George, three sisters Birtie Wilson, Leota Johnson, Dorothy McFarland, five brothers Charley, Clifford, Albert, Alvie and Clinton Shrum.
In lieu of flowers and other condolences please consider making a contribution to Hospice of Green Country, 1120 S. Boston Ave., Tulsa, Oklahoma 74109.
