Peggy Ann McCreary, a beloved friend to all and cherished member of her community,
passed away on January 11, 2024. She was born on October 29, 1942, to Orvil and Grace Huston in Chelsea, Oklahoma.
After graduating from Chelsea High School in 1960, Peggy married and had two boys, Hokey and Mike, then in 1974 she met the love of her life A.W. "Dub" McCreary. They embarked on a journey filled with love, laughter and adventure.Together they shared a mutual love for exploring new destinations through Dub’s work. Their favorite getaway spot was southern Texas and Corpus Christi.
Peggy possessed an infectious spirit that made each day brighter for those around her. With her fun-loving nature and boundless enthusiasm, she brought joy to every room she entered. Her spunk and zest for life were truly remarkable.
Among Peggy’s many interests were visiting the casino to play the slot machines, antiquing for hidden treasures, getting her hair done every week as a small luxury she enjoyed immensely, watching football games with great excitement, indulging in TV shows like Judge Judy, Dallas, Dancing with the Stars and Lonesome Dove and embarking on adventures with Dub. She will be remembered for her talent as a seamstress, her famous fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, her vibrant personality full of spunk and above all else, her immense love for family.
Peggy Ann McCreary is survived by her sons Hokey Mitchell and his wife Loretta, Mike Mitchell and his wife Dee Dee , loving sister-in-law Linda Huston, grandchildren Michae Hayes, Cody Mitchell and his wife Joni, Christina Delozier and her husband Jake, Jackie Weirather and her husband Tyler, Tristan Mitchell and his wife Haleigh, Taci Mitchell and nine great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents Orvil and Grace Huston, her beloved husband A.W.”Dub” McCreary, son “Little Joe” Mitchell, brother Howard Huston, sisters Helen Brashers and Margaret Huston, granddaughter Bobbi McKinney, and grandsons Brian Tyler Mitchell and Michael Trevor Mitchell.
However, above all else, Peggy’s greatest love was reserved for her family. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren and filled their lives with warmth and love. Her legacy will be carried forward through the memories of the family gatherings and special moments they shared together. She has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her, Peggy’s presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished in our memories.
