Phillip Raymon Jones

August 23, 1925 — April 26, 2013

Funeral service for Phillip Raymon Jones will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the United Pentecostal Church of Chelsea. Burial will follow in Chelsea Cemetery under the direction of the Chelsea Funeral Home.

The son of Teddy and Bertha Young-Jones was born August 23, 1925 in Blackwell, Oklahoma. Shortly thereafter, the Jones family moved to the Chelsea Area where they began farming. Phillip joined the Navy in 1944, and was honorably discharged in 1946. During a catastrophic storm, in which several fellow sailors lost their lives, he promised God to live for him if he made it home alive. He returned home and began fulfilling his promise to God. He met his wife, Cornealius (Connie) Thulin, at a church meeting in Sperry, Oklahoma. It was love at first sight and marriage followed March 23, 1951. They began raising their family in Sperry, and a few years later moved to Tulsa to be near Phillip’s job at Flint Steel Corporation. Feeling the call to ministry, they began evangelizing in the late 1950’s, holding their first revival in Topeka, Kansas. They continued to evangelize, while assisting Rev. Carl Ecker at the North Lewis United Pentecostal Church in Tulsa. In early 1970, they moved from Tulsa to pastor the Chelsea United Pentecostal Church.

Returning to the Tulsa area, they assisted Rev. Orville Hendryx at the Eastland Apostolic Church. Rev. Hendryx retired, and Phillip continued to assist the new pastor, Rev. Charles Hancock for several years.

In 2006 Phillip and Connie moved back to Chelsea where he continued his evangelical efforts by assisting his Son-in-Law and Daughter, Rev. Randy Jones and Lovella at their Church in Grove Oklahoma.

During this time, Phillip worked at Flint Steel Corporation in Tulsa to provide additional support for his family. After 37 years of service, the facility closed and Phillip worked for Wells Fargo as a security guard for 10 years.

Hobbies included gardening, fishing, and leatherwork. However, his favorite activity was discussing the Bible.

He was preceded in death by his parents Teddy and Bertha; Brothers Paul, and Alfred Jones, sister Betty Thulin and two infant sisters.

Survivors include his wife Connie of the home, children Raymon Jones and wife Kathy of Adair, Imogene O’Hearon of Chelsea, and Lovella and husband Randy of Chelsea, brother Harvey Jones and wife Annie of Chelsea. Grandchildren include Kyle Jones and wife Chiharu of Pottstown PA, Miranda Crone and husband Kyle of Tulsa, Jennifer Payne and husband John of Rienzi MS, Preston Jones, Alex O’Hearon, Victoria and Patricia Jones of Chelsea, Eric O’Hearon of Tulsa and Stewart Jones of Chelsea. Great grandchildren are Emma-Lynn O’Hearon, and Kento Jones.
