Burial will follow at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Phillip passed away at Claremore Nursing Home on Saturday, December 29, 2018. He was 85 years old.
The son of Bennie Earl Minor and Geneieve Ruth (Hill) Minor was born on August 3, 1933, in Keetonville. He was raised in the area, and attended Limestone School. He was a hard worker from a young age. His first job was at Norfleet Ranch. He also worked at the Collinsville brickyard for a time.
As a young man, he met a friend of his sister, Loveta Howard. He purchased her pie at a pie supper, and the two began dating. They were married on May 17, 1952, at his parents' home. The newlyweds began their married life in Keetonville, while Phillip worked in the oil fields for Franks Manufacturing Company. During the next several years, Phillip and Loveta also owned a dairy and stock cattle. Phillip retired from his oil field work in the mid-1990's.
Phillip was a committed member of Hilldale Baptist Church. His favorite activity was raising money to send kids to Junior Camp. In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering with cars, growing vegetables and flowers, and visiting museums, especially those involved with the history of Oklahoma.
He was a kind, caring man with big hands and a big heart, a mentor to many young people and others in his community. Whenever anyone needed help, whether it was with a vehicle or something else, they always turned to Phillip. Above all, he was a devoted family man.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Geneieve, and sisters Shirley Cruse and Ruby Cooper.
Those family members that survive are his wife, Loveta; children, Rev. Philliph Terry Minor and wife Lenda, Douglas Howard Minor and wife Cindy, and Loveta Joy Poorboy and husband Marc; and siblings Ray Minor, Bill Minor, Zelma Nelson, and Hellen Basks. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Green Country Baptist Children’s Camp in Disney, Oklahoma.
