Funeral service for Rachel H. Lowery will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 14, at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Pastor Mark Burger will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of the MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 13, at the funeral home from 1-6 p.m. with family receiving friends from 4-6 p.m.
Rachel Lowery went home to be with the Lord on September 8, 2015 at the age of 91.
The daughter of Theodore C. and Hilda Schultz Bergman was born June 13, 1924 in White, South Dakota. There she was raised, and attended White Public Schools. She was also a member of the high school band. Wanting to continue her education, Rachel enrolled in business college in Sioux Falls. After completing her education, she then began to work in Sioux Falls. However wanting something more, she decided to take the civil service exam. Then just a short time later she and her best friend boarded a train headed for Washington DC. There she began working at the Pentagon. Her job was working as the secretary to the Assistant Secretary of Defense. It was also the place that she met a serviceman named Roy Lowery. They would marry on February 4, 1950. Over the next several years Rachel would follow her husband to places such as Japan, Germany, Georgia and after his retirement to Claremore, Oklahoma. Where he accepted a job with the Oklahoma Military Academy. After she settled into Claremore, she and her husband opened up Coin Opt Laundry. She also worked at the Claremore Tag Agency for over 20 years.
In her spare time there were many hobbies she enjoyed. There was bowling, going to the performing arts center, playing bingo and Bunco as well as being active in the Redeemer Lutheran Church.
After the passing of her husband Rachel became acquainted with Richard Phillips. Over the next few years they would share each others companionship. They enjoyed traveling between a home in Green Valley, Arizona, and Claremore.
She was know by many as a lady who never had a bad word to say about anybody or anything.
She is preceded in death by her parents Theodore and Hilda Bergman and husband, Roy E. Lowery.
Survivors include her children Linda Lowery and partner Iris Del Toro of Seattle, Washington, Carol Faught and husband James of Tulsa, and Michael Lowery and wife Stephanie of Claremore; grandchildren, Christopher and Anthony Del Toro of Seattle, Washington and sister Gladys Hickerson.
