Funeral service for Randle Leon Hendrix will be 11 a.m., Wed., Aug. 15, at First Baptist Church with Bro. Sam Nichols officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tues. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.
Randle died Thurs., Aug. 9, 2012, at his home at the age of 78.
The son of William Arthur Hendrix and Allie Mae McClendon McCray was born May 21, 1934, at the family home on East Patti Page (2nd Street) in Claremore. Randle attended Claremore High School, and joined the Marines when he was only 17. He was sent to the front lines in Korea where he carried a flame thrower. After his military service, he attended Howard Payne College in Texas. On July 1, 1959, Randle met Ruth A. Lee, and they were married on Aug. 21, 1959. Randle went to work for Spartan, and in 1961, moved to Wichita, KS to work for Beech Aircraft for 8 years. They then moved back to Claremore, and Randle worked with Pete at the salvage yard, and Basler Construction. Randle was a retired electrician and real estate broker. He has been involved in the Rogers County Jail Ministry for over 20 years and has regularly taken a group into the jail on Wednesday nights for Bible Study with the inmates. He loved to oil paint, and read non-fiction and the bible. Randle was a member of First Baptist Church, where he taught 3rd grade Bible school, and Adult Sunday school.
Randle is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; sister, Betty Mae Hendrix; and brother, William Alvis "Pete" Hendrix.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth of the home; sons: Randy Hendrix and wife, Kari of Owasso, and Sandy Hendrix and wife, Becky of Liberty, TX; grandchildren: Mandy, Brandie, Ricky, Angela, Korie, Crystal, Sheldon, Levi, Brittany, and Shayli; 18 great-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren, 2 nephews, 2 nieces, and several cousins.
