Raymond "Rusty" Joseph Harris, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on August 17, 2023, at the age of 63 surrounded by family and friends. A memorial service in honor of Rusty's life will take place on Friday, August 25, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel.
Born on July 9, 1960, in Des Moines, Iowa, Rusty was the son of John Harris and Mary (Booth) Lankford. Rusty moved around a lot growing up before settling in Foyil, OK, where he completed his high school education. Rusty loved the outdoors and could often be found fishing below the Oologah Dam or in his favorite tree stand in the woods. What Rusty enjoyed more than anything else was spending time with his wife Sheryl, who comforted him through his last breath. His commitment extended beyond his own interests, as he coached soccer, served as a referee for youth and high school football and soccer, and served for many years on the board of directors for the Claremore Soccer Club. He loved working as a postal worker for many years. Rusty's greatest blessings were his grandchildren and any time he got to spend with them was his greatest joy in life. Rusty will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Rusty is preceded in death by his parents.
Rusty is survived by his beloved wife, Sheryl (Kilpatrick) Harris of 34 years, and his children: Joshua Harris and Karissa LaValley and her husband, JD. Rusty's grandchildren, Trace LaValley, Kholton Harris, Kaylynn Harris, Kaleb Harris, and Kaden Harris. Rusty is also survived by his brothers, John Harris and Craig Harris, and sisters, Toleea Pina, Carol Seward, Chris Staples, and Barbara Pryne.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
