Funeral services for Reba Joann Sampley of Verdigris, OK, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 27 at the Verdigris Assembly of God church. A Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 26 at the MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel. Joann died Sunday at her home. She was 80. She was born on November 20, 1936 in Alix, AR to parents Raymond and Vivian Hurt. She married J.D. Sampley on May 19, 1952 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They were married for 65 years.
Joann worked in the school cafeteria at Oakridge Elementary School in Tulsa, and at Carl's Coney Island in Claremore for 17 years. She loved home and family; making a home where her kids, grandkids, and greats, could come and go as they pleased. She and J.D. never said "no" to caring for their grandchildren whenever needed. She loved playing piano, crocheting, quilting, puzzle books, and reading in no particular order. She was a member of the Verdigris Assembly of God church.
She is survived by her husband J. D., of the home; three brothers Lee Roy Hurt, Kenny Hurt and Dale Hurt; Daughter Janet Wray of Tulsa; Sons David and his wife, Linda of Owasso, Fred and his wife, Marilyn of Claremore and Doug and his wife, Cheri of Marshfield, MO
8 Grandchildren: Kim James, and husband Brad, of Verdigris, OK; Brett Dorsey of Grapevine, TX; Sammy Martin of Verdigris, OK; Leslie Brown, and husband James, of Mannford, OK; John Sampley, and wife Kylee, of Marshfield, MO; Kurt Newton, and wife Stephanie, of Claremore, OK; Joshua Sampley of Marshfield, MO; and Aaron Sampley Fisher of Verdigris, OK. 6 Great-Grandchildren; Trey Weiesnbach, Paige Weiesnbach, Faith Weiesnbach, Jerra Brown, Isaac Brown and Elaina Brown. Joann was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Vivian Hurt, Jack Faye Randolph, Johnny Hurt, Phyllis Bennett, and Irvin Hurt.
