Rickey Dean Ott passed away April 15, 2016 at his home at the age of 61.

The son of Roy and Cora Phillips Ott was born November 18, 1954 in Checotah, Oklahoma. There he would attend Checotah schools, graduating with the class of 1973. After graduation he continued his education, and also began his working career working in the oil fields. However in 1979 things changed for Rick. It was then that he met Denise Smith. They would marry December 29, 1979 in Lakeland, Florida. With the encouragement from Denise, Rick not only obtained his Bachelors degree from Southeastern but also obtained his Masters degree from Northeastern State University.

His teaching and coaching career took him to several places in Oklahoma. Places like Quapaw, Vinita and currently he was in Hulbert. However most of the past 35 years of service were spent in Rogers County at places like, Sequoyah, Foyil and Inola.

Even though he was a very successful coach, his greatest victories were the positive impacts that he had on his players, students and family members. He loved the fact that his three children all followed his coaching career path.

In his spare time Rick loved working on his farm, which he named Hickory Hills. There he would pass the time cutting wood, building fence and just enjoying the outdoors. He also loved raising show pigs for many local agriculture boys and girls. Watching sports was also a favorite pastime. He loved traveling and watching his children coach. Many times he would be the first person to the gym and often was the last to leave. When it came to sports outside of the high school realm, he loved watching the Dallas Cowboys, Oklahoma Sooners and the St. Louis Cardinals.

To many people Rick will always be "Coach Ott", the person who guided them on and off the court. To others he was the man who was passionate about God, and his family. To all he will be missed.

He is preceded in death by his mother Cora Ott and sister Judy Mann.

Survivors include his wife Denise of the home; children, Lee Ott and wife Crissy of Oologah, Amanda Henderson and husband Chris, and Derick Ott and fiancé Leslie all of Claremore; grandchildren Jace, Kade, Ty, Parker, Payge, Brooklynne and Tess; sisters, Dianna Mann of Eufaula, Janie Cunningham of Checotah; brothers, Randy Ott and wife Brenda of Hulbert, Walter Ott and wife Debbie of Blanchard as well as many extended family and friends.
