Service for Robert Ashwood will be 1:00p.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 25 from 1pm-7pm. Robert passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023. He was 87.
Robert Eugene Ashwood, born on July 5, 1936, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, passed away on July 21, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was a remarkable individual who led a rich and fulfilling life.
Robert's education began at the Sequoyah School in Muskogee, where he attended a one-room schoolhouse. He later continued his studies in Oktaha. In his early 40s, Robert achieved a significant personal milestone by obtaining his GED. He took great pride in this accomplishment and showcased his determination and dedication to personal growth.
A man of diverse talents, Robert pursued various careers throughout his lifetime. He worked on a dairy farm and also engaged in farming ventures elsewhere. Additionally, Robert worked for Goodwill for a time. He also served as a janitor at Arrowhead Mall and the Federal building in Muskogee and also the Federal building in Tulsa.
In service to his country, Robert proudly served as a member of the US Army from 1959 to 1961. His commitment to duty and loyalty exemplified his character and deep-rooted sense of patriotism.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Robert cultivated several hobbies and interests that enriched his life. He was an avid reader who delved into various literary genres with enthusiasm. Furthermore, he possessed a love for fishing and embraced photography as a passion. His talents behind the camera were appreciated by many as he captured cherished moments during his niece's weddings. When he relocated to Claremore, Robert became an active member of Memorial Heights Baptist Church. His ministry focused on providing Bibles to those he encountered during his daily interactions—a testament to his faith-driven compassion.
Throughout his life journey, family held great importance for Robert. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert F. Ashwood and Clara Ashwood (Foreman), as well as his sister Joyce Kizzia. Left to cherish their memories of him are his surviving sisters: Nina Wilkins of Copan, Oklahoma, and Carol Boyd of Claremore, Oklahoma. Robert's generous and loving spirit made an indelible impact on his numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who held a special place in his heart.
