Funeral service for Robert Merl Black will be 11 a.m., Wed., Sept. 24, at First Baptist Church of Mazie with Brother Jes Dinsmore officiating. A graveside service will be held at noon on Thurs. at Lindley Creek Cemetery, Goodson, MO, under the direction of the Inola Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tues. 1-8 p.m.
Robert passed away Sun., Sept. 22, 2013, at St. John Hospital, Tulsa, at the age of 67.
The son of Eldridge Merl and Mavis Agnes (Holt) Black was born March 12, 1946, in Santa Paula, CA. Robert attended school in Buffalo, and began his working career in Missouri. He came with his uncle to Oklahoma where he obtained his electrician license and went to work with the City of Tulsa. He married Judy Ann Ferguson and they had a daughter, Tina. In 1985, Robert moved from Broken Arrow to Inola. On Aug. 31, 2008, he married Carolyn Gail Coker in Wilburton. Robert retired from the City of Tulsa, and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He could be found fishing, welding in his shop, pheasant hunting, and riding horses. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
Robert is survived by his wife, Carolyn of the home; daughter, Tina Herring and husband, Andy of Inola; step-daughters: Tammy Bishop of Inola, and Linda Hasting of Hacket, AR; and grandchildren: Brett and Russell Herring.
