Robert LeRoy McCamish was born to the late Richard McCamish and Irene-Kerr-Stewart on April 11, 1940 in Claremore, Oklahoma.Irene later married E.J. Stewart, Robert’s stepfather. grew up in various locations around Rogers and Craig County. His grandmother, Anna-Marie Greenfeather and grandfather, Robert Kerr raised and cared for him.
He went to school in Foyil, OK where he played baseball.After school, he tried out to play baseball for the Cardinals as a catcher with his brother Charles.Robert accepted an offer to play.However, check and bus ticket in hand ready for spring training in Mexico, he was drafted by the army.
After returning from the army, he married Marilyn Ahnawake McCamish of Chelsea on March 1, 1966 in Claremore, OK by Rev. Andy Bradshaw, Marilyn’s. cousin. their family, they were known as Running Bear and White Dove and had the CB names to prove it. raised two children, Robin and Troy on a farm between Chelsea, Winganon and Alluwe, Oklahoma with discipline, Christian values and love.He was a known horseman, Christian and family man.
Blessed with a large family, Robert was proud to boast about all 6 of his brothers and sisters and their families. are pure of heart and could always recognize the goodness in Robert.Children loved him and he had a kinship with all his nieces and nephews that was special.His mother-in-law and father-in-law, Audrey and Al Bradshaw, adored him.He was loved by everyone that met him and knew him.
Robert was saved in Lenapah Baptist Church and baptized in the Winganon Lake by Brother Earl Cleek.He was immersed in the Christian Community and his church family were near and dear to his heart.Robert, also known as Bob, was a loyal friend and would do anything to help anyone that needed it.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard McCamish; his mother, Irene Kerr Stewart; his step-father, EJ Stewart; his brothers, Clyde and Charles McCamish; his sisters, Wanda Fenstermacher and Minnie-Ann Morgan. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Ahnawake McCamish; his daughter, Robin Campos; his son Troy McCamish and daughter-in-law, Tracey Burns-McCamish; his grandchildren, Mikela Ahnawake and Lakota Cheyenne Campos; his sister, Wilma Sue Mallory and husband Ronnie Mallory; and his sister Linda Portis and husband Bob Portis.
