Funeral service for Robert Lee Roberson will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 23, 2018, at MMS-Payne Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, from 1-8 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5-8 p.m.
Robert passed away at his home on Saturday, August 18th, 2018. He was 79 years old.
Robert was the son of Edmond and Kathryn Christiansen Roberson, born in Larned, Kansas on December 30, 1938. This is where he grew up and attended school, graduating with the class of 1956. After high school, he served in the U.S. Marines. It was in Larned where he married Sarah Clark on February 11, 1962. This union was blessed with four children.
After leaving the Marines, Robert worked for awhile as a butcher, until his brother convinced him to become an apprentice bricklayer. He became a very accomplished mason, winning first place in the state of Kansas, and third place in the national competition for masonry. In fact, Robert continued to do masonry work up until just a few years ago. In 1967, Robert moved his family to Claremore. In 1977 he married Shirley L. Thompson. They were married for 27 years, until Shirley passed away. On May 17, 2008, Robert married Verna Joyce Hansell Davis.
In his spare time, Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and Sunday drives. In his later years he discovered a love for travel. He attended Rehoboth Baptist Church and Spencer Creek Baptist Church.
Robert is survived by children, Jane Annette Webb, Sarah Dawn Dobbs, Brian Ski Roberson; step-children, James Mack Golden, Michael A. Davis, Anna C. Berry, and Steven E. Davis; grandchildren Tharin Kelly Ayers, Avery Katharin Dobbs, Delaine Kylynn Dobbs, Sarah Ann Nelson; step-grandchildren, Jake Golden, Hannah Rene` Birmingham, Samuel Lee Berry and Emily Marie Berry; and siblings, Norman R. Roberson, Edith Jane Bird, and Lois Kay Coleman.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty Sohl, brother Eldon K. Roberson, Sister Sherry Roberson and son, Robert James Roberson.
