Robyn Brenda Kerby Barbour was born November 26, 1957. She stepped onto Heaven’s streets of gold on September 23, 2021.
She was the daughter of Bob and Rebecca Kerby and grew up in the Newton Place neighborhood of east Tulsa. She attended East Central High School, but was accepted into and graduated from the Booker T. Washington Magnet High School program. She attended American Christian College, then earned her Master’s Degree from Rogers State University, where she became an instructor.
As early as in her teenage years, she began teaching piano, eventually teaching from the Robyn Barbour Studio of the Arts in Claremore – adding a number of other musical instruments as well as drawing and painting to the curriculum.
She was perhaps best known for her work as a mentor, both to children and adults – with a special heart for those dealing with trauma.
She is preceded in death by her parents and survived by a daughter, a brother, an extensive network of family and friends, and a large group of deeply beloved ones she called “almost my own” – those she had befriended and mentored over the decades.
A celebration of her life is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, October 2, at Memorial Heights Baptist Church in Claremore, the site of her students’ many recitals. The family will conduct a private interment.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that friends consider donating to the Robyn Barbour Memorial Fund at CASA of Northeast Oklahoma:
