Funeral service for Roger Lee Gourd will be 11 a.m., Tues., Nov. 15, at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel with Chaplain Bishop Bell officiating. Burial with military honors by the U.S. Army will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Mon. 1-6 p.m.
Roger died Wed., Nov. 9, 2011, at Bailey Medical Center, Owasso, at the age of 67.
The son of Taylor Gourd and Pearl J. (Rabbit) Bird was born April 2, 1944, in Hulbert, OK. He grew up in Claremore, and graduated from Sequoyah High School. While in high school, he enjoyed playing high school and American Legion baseball. Roger continued his education at Claremore Junior College, and then entered the U.S. Army serving during Vietnam. Roger after his discharge, Roger went to work with the Luggage Plant in Claremore as a supervisor. He later worked for Safeway as an assistant manager, and Warehouse Market as a manager. He retired from the Claremore Indian Hospital in 2006, where he was a supervisor. He was a member of the American Legion Post 141, and an avid golf player. Roger started out as a caddy, carrying bags for golfers in Tulsa, at the age of 10. Throughout the years he won many trophies. Roger attended Bible Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his father, Taylor Gourd.
Roger is survived by his mother, Pearl Bird and husband, Charlie of Claremore; children: Shannon, Stephen, and Belinda Gourd all of Claremore; siblings: Swimmer D. Baldridge and wife, Donna of Claremore, Clark Baldridge and wife, Chris of Claremore, Archie Baldridge and wife, Dava of Claremore, Carol Ann Parish of Claremore, Sandy Stuart of Enid, and Wanda Gerber of Claremore; grandchildren: Tyler Gourd, Tarin Gourd, Blade Jordan, Max Jordan, Nik Jordan, Canyon Sawney, Wyatt Cole Gourd, and Stephen Gourd; and a host of nieces and nephews.
