Roy "Dale" Lance

October 29, 1937 — February 8, 2019

Memorial service for Roy "Dale" Lance will be 11:00 am Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at Inola Funeral Home Chapel. Dale passed away Friday, February 8, 2019, in Claremore, Oklahoma at the age of 81.

Dale was born in Bradley, Oklahoma, on October 29, 1937, the son of Andrew Beecher Lance and Anna Merle (Nix) Lance. He grew up on a small farm in the area, and graduated High School in 1955. He was always a hard worker. He was the first in his family to attend college. He attended OU, living and working in the dorm, and as a campus DJ.

His first job was in the office at G.M. in Kansas. However, this didn't allow him enough time to spend outdoors, so he moved back to Oklahoma and began working for a soil sterilization company. He eventually started his own company, Lance Weed Control, Inc., which he ran for about 45 years. He raised his children in the town of Fairfax, Oklahoma. He was a very involved dad, coaching their sports, and was active in the community. He served on the school board for many years.

In 1983, Dale met Ann Walters. They were married at Eureka Springs in 1990, and made their home in Tulsa. In 1994, they settled in Inola. Until about age 65, Dale was a very active person who enjoyed many adventures, especially those involving the outdoors. He loved his horses and dogs. He was a very talented athlete, being named the Oklahoma Senior Olympian two different times. In 1995, he won the World Decathlon in New York City, setting a world record. He enjoyed water sports, mountain climbing, and even rode a mechanical bull at the age of 81. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, son Roger Lance, grandson Dustin Lance, and brothers Gregory and Max.

Survivors include his wife Ann; son Craig Lance and wife Jennifer, daughter Stacy Goodfox, daughter-in-law Denise Skocik, step-daughter Stacey Lindsey and husband Craig; grandchildren Tasha Vaughn and husband Scott, Rachel Burruss and husband Blake, Carson Lance, Kaelyn Lance, Lindsay Goodeagle Crenshaw, Braden Wallace, Mannon Wallace, Summer Wallace, Cade Lindsey, Cason Lindsey, and Londyn Lindsey; and great-grandchildren Chakah Johnson, Farren Johnson, Collin Brazee, Robert Richard Pratt, III, Barrett Burruss, Cannan Vaughn, Judah Vaughn and Tobias Vaughn.
