Russell Duane Wilt

Graveside service for Russell D. Wilt will be 2:00p.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pastor James Hudson will officiate. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday, May 30, 2016 from 1pm--6pm. Russell passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the age of 83.

Russell Duane Wilt was born April 3, 1933 in Alva, Oklahoma to Isaac Peter and Irma May (Hofen) Wilt. He grew up and received his education in several different communities. He finished his high school in Adair and went on to North Eastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami, earning his Associates degree from there. He completed his bachelors of Science Degree from North Eastern State University in Tahlequah. Russell also served his country in the United States Army, stationed as a medic at Tripler Hospital located in Honolulu, Hawaii Territory. He was an expert marksman.

Russell married Ramona Odell Henry on December 30, 1958 in a Miami, Oklahoma ceremony. The couple made Claremore home while Russell worked for the United States Postal Service in Tulsa.

Hobbies were hunting and fishing, tinkering, listening to music and creating something wonderful out of what most people called junk. He was a member of the Tulsa Rock & Mineral Society, Tulsa Genealogical Society, Rogers County Genealogical Society, lifetime member of the NRA, and had his life time hunting and fishing license with the state of Oklahoma. Russell served as a steward in the American Postal Workers Union for several years. He rode over 150k miles on his Moto Guzzi motorcycle . Russell was an avid genealogist and spent many hours researching his family history. He was a collector of interesting things, loved a good joke, was a man of great integrity and independence. He loved his family deeply.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Ramona. Those family members that survive include his daughter Anita Wilt Collins and husband Guy; his grandchildren Sean Collins, Erin Collins and Brendan Collins all of Plymouth Minnesota.
