Funeral service for Ruth Ophadee Cherry will be 2 p.m., Fri., Sept. 13, at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel with Pastor Steve Holestine officiating. Burial will follow at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Fri. 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Ruth passed away Wed., Sept. 11, 2013, at St. John Hospital at the age of 88.
The daughter of Levi and Maude (Coker) Willhoite was born Nov. 18, 1924, in Tiawah. Ruth grew up in Tiawah and graduated from Claremore schools in 1944. She married John Cherry, Jr. on April 18, 1958, and they made their home in Claremore. Ruth worked at Gateway Luggage, and also made birthday cakes. She later started her own catering business. Ruth was a charter member of the hospital auxiliary and served as a past president. She was also a member of the Pilot Club and VFW Auxiliary. She served as a past president for the VFW Auxiliary. Ruth was a member of the Red Hats Society and worked for the Rogers County Election Board. Ruth most recently worked for Hoovers Mall, and remained active in Claremore.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Lloyd, L.E., and Bill; and sister, Loretta Doty.
Ruth is survived by her husband, John of the home; son, Larry Horton of Harrison; daughter, Barbara Rader of Claremore; brother, Bob Willhoite of Houston, TX; grandchildren: Damita, Abby, Bekah, Heather, Tadd, and DeDe; 10 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
