Sammye Jo Burns

Funeral service for Sammye Jo Burns will be 10 a.m., Thurs., May 30, at the House of Prayer with Rev. Richard Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow at Ward's Grove Cemetery, Foyil, under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.

Sammye passed away May 27, 2013, at St. John Hospital, Tulsa, at the age of 74.

The daughter of Lowell and Imogene (Lloyd) Sellers was born Sept. 14, 1938, in Claremore. Sammye graduated from Claremore High School in 1956. On Nov. 9, 1958, she married Mervin Edward Burns. Sammye was a homemaker; and had also worked at the Top Hat and as a cook at Foyil schools. She loved spending time with Mervin and her grandchildren, and family cookouts. Sammye also enjoyed reading, playing bingo, going to the casino, and watching soap operas.

She is survived by her husband, Mervin; children: Guy Burns and wife, Rhonda; daughter, Teri Stanbro and husband, Rick; grandchildren: Robin Burns Tadych, Kelsea Burns Simms, Trent Burns, Taner Burns, Stacy Stanbro Longhorn, and Justin Stanbro; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers: Gary Sellers, and Don "Butch" Sellers and wife, Sherena; several nieces and nephews; and cousin, Norman Dean Briagi and wife, Shirley.
