Funeral service for James Rollins "Sandy" Holland will be 2 p.m., Thurs., Oct. 11, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Janelle Brammer officiating. Burial with military honors by the U.S. Navy will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Tulsa, under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 3-6 p.m.
Sandy died Mon., Oct. 8, 2012, at Wood Manor Nursing Home at the age of 84.
The son of Houston and Mabel Clair (Freeland) Holland was born May 14, 1928, in Oklahoma City. He went to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II and afterwards joined the graduating class of Claremore High School in 1947. On March 6, 1953, Sandy married Ida Isobel Burnett in Tulsa. They moved to Claremore in 1955. Sandy worked for Meadow Gold, and later American Airlines. He retired in 1990 as a crew chief. Sandy was a member of First United Methodist Church, Elk's Lodge, and VFW. He enjoyed cattle, watching NCIS with family, and being social and dancing.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ida in 2001; his parents; and brothers: Robert Richard "Smokey" and Houston Hayes Holland.
Sandy is survived by his daughter, Connie Sue Holland of Tulsa; grandson, James R. "Jimmy" Holland, II of Tulsa; and sister, Mary Holland McClure of Dallas, TX.
