Sarah Katherine DeVore passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the age of 98.
The daughter of George and Ora (Landers) Setters was born February 5, 1919, in Missouri. As a young girl, her family moved to Arkansas before settling in Chewy Holler, near Tahlequah. It was there that she would meet Emmett DeVore. They would marry on December 23, 1933. Eventually the newlywed couple would move north of Claremore, settling on a farm in the Owalla community. For the next several years, she and Emmett sharecropped, saving to buy their own farm. In the early 1950's, they purchased their own farm a few miles east of Chelsea. She loved working on that farm. In the summer time you would find her spending hours taking care of her garden and chickens. In the winter she would help feed the cows and the rest of the farm animals. However, this wasn't her only job. For several years she worked as a caretaker, helping families in White Oak, Big Cabin, and Vinita.
In her spare time, Sarah was happy just being outdoors. It didn't matter what the occasion, she just liked being outside. It was just that much more enjoyable when she could spend it with her family, and little dog Peanut.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Ora; husband, Emmett, and seven siblings.
Survivors include her daughter, Vida Morgan and husband Everett; sons, Chauncey DeVore and wife Roberta, Roy DeVore and wife Virginia, and Ronnie DeVore and wife Betty; grandchildren, Anna McSpadden and husband Ken, Donnie DeVore and wife Linda, Connie Porter and husband Jay, Patty Killion and husband Dave, Roger DeVore and wife Amy, Brian DeVore, Michael A.
