Service for Selina Mann will be 10:00a.m., Friday, September 8, 2017 at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints Church, burial will follow at Lone Elm Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1pm--6pm Thursday September 7 at the funeral home, with family receiving visitors from 4pm--6pm.
Selina K. Mann passed away on August 19, 2017 at her home in Claremore, OK.
Selina Kelsall was born on November 25, 1927, in Magia, Upolu, Western Samoa to: Thomas Steve Kelsall and Lafo Malia Aipopo. She was also known to her family as Lua’ipouomalo. She has three brothers and seven sisters.
After graduating High School, she worked as a school teacher for primer one thru four (elementary) for approximately 3 years. She changed jobs and worked as a sales clerk in a department store for a few years. She met Ernest Mann at a local dance and the courting started. They married on August 2, 1947 and their family started from then until 1971. She held several jobs outside the home: school teacher, translator, membership records clerk, and above all being a mother to her large family. In 1962, Ernest and Selina took their family to the New Zealand temple to be sealed for time and all eternity. She served as Stake Relief Society President and President of the Sei Aute Club, an all womens club on the island. A special honor came in 1965, when the Prime Minister appointed Selina to represent her country, Western Samoa at the United Nations Womens Conference in Mongolia. Many countries were represented by women of higher education with notable degrees and titles of doctorates, PHD, lawyers, professors, etc. and as her greatest accomplishment: she is the mother of 12 children. She received a standing ovation and cheers for the degree that only God can give to a woman.
Her family now consists of 13 children moved to America in 1966 for opportunities in a better life and better education for her children. Lived in California for 24 years and 3 more children were born there. In 1991 Ernie and Selina moved to Utah. In 1997 they moved to Claremore, Oklahoma and have been here ever since. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She is survived by her 16 children: Fae Lela Roberts (John) of American Samoa, Margie King of Claremore, Oklahoma, Wilford Mann (Joyce) of Long Beach, California, LaRee Mann of Auckland, New Zealand, Felicia Mann of Independence, Missouri, Eric Mann (Ruta) of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Robert Mann (Ana) of Henderson, Nevada, Jacqueline Sandell (Lowell) of Salina, Kansas, Brent Mann (Cristan) of Riverside, California, Bessie Mann of Claremore, Oklahoma, Olsen Mann of Mesa, Arizona, Eugene Mann of Mesa, Arizona, Jay Mann (Andrea) of Anthem, Arizona, Renee Knaus (Steve) of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Erin Lowe (Monty) of Claremore, Oklahoma, Thomas Mann of Honolulu, Hawaii. She is also survived by her sister Epi Lemate of Samoa and 45 grand children, 81 great grand children, 4 great, great, grand children, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Mann, grandson Joseph Thomas, and grandson Curtis Mann.
