Shirley Waldine Rider passed away on Saturday, February 4th, 2023, at the age of 79.
The daughter of Samuel "Joe" and Myrtle (Nelson) Hudson was born July 15th, 1943, in Chelsea Oklahoma. As a young girl she would attend Chelsea Schools, where she graduated as the class valedictorian of 1961. It was also while in school that she would first meet, Dale Rider. The two would become high school sweethearts and married on August 31, 1961. The newlywed couple would make their home in the Tulsa area, where they would spend the next 40 years. During this time, she would work as a payroll clerk for companies such as Children's Medical Center, and Coral Pools. She would retire from Coral Swimming Pools in 2002. After retirement Shirley and Dale would move to Lake Hudson. Living the lake life was a dream come true. Shirley always enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and boating. Now it was right out her front door. Living at the lake also introduced her to the Otterbein Country Church. There she loved teaching bible study, and helped with the bookkeeping, and was a part of the quilting club.
Shirley also was a part of many service organizations. She was a Red Cross Volunteer for 5 years. She belonged to the Tulsa chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Freedom Foundation, Oklahoma Historical Society, Sarah Watie Chapter UDC, Tulsa Genealogical Society, Nancy Ward Association, Beloved Women of the Cherokee, the Pocahontas Club and the Daughters of 1812.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Myrtle Hudson, and sisters, Anna May Coleman and Mary Herrick.
Survivors include her husband, Dale Rider; sons, Tracy Rider and wife Debbora, and Keith Rider and wife Tami; grandchildren, Angel Jones and spouse Cleveland Percy, Autumn Rider and spouse Caleb Benner, Tosha and spouse Nick Faith, Travis and spouse Becky Rider and Chase Rider and spouse Jess; great-grandchildren, Aubree, Ausha, Aspen, Albany, Acacia, and Aero; great-great-grandchildren, Cassius, and Adrian; daughter of the heart, Tomma Lou Fitzgerald; brother in law, Jerry Rider and wife Cheryl and many other nieces nephews and extended family.
