Services for Shirley Ann Woody will be 10:00a.m., Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Memorial Heights Baptist Church; burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday, June 2, from 1—8pm, with family receiving visitors from 6—8pm. Shirley passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014. She was 76.
Shirley Ann Woody was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma on February 9, 1938 to Floyd Bryan Chambers Sr. and Marie (Litchenburg) Chambers. She grew up in Claremore, Oklahoma and attended schools at Justus, Claremore and graduated from Sequoyah School in 1956. She had many jobs including the Yale Theater, Will Rogers Hotel and Southwestern Bell. Shirley was introduced to her future husband, Charles F. Woody Sr. by a lifelong friend, Donny Dennis. They married on March 30, 1956 in Claremore and made their home here through the years. She started her own business…Shirley’s Sunshine Shop, Chamwood Mall and Woody’s Auction, where she was the number one auctioneer.
Married for 58 years, Charles and Shirley were blessed with two wonderful sons, Charles, Jr. and Jarett Alan. Shirley had many many hobbies, including arts & crafts, gardening, riding her 4wheeler and auctioneering. She made many friends throughout the years but none of them were more important to her than spending time with her family at home or at the lake house.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Shirley was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Those family members that survive include her husband Charles of their home; her sons and daughter-in- laws Chuck and Vonda Woody and Jarett and Marti Woody all of Claremore; her prize possessions, grandchildren Andrea Mildren and husband Brandon, Jennefer Brownlow and husband Charlie, Bryan Alan Woody, Christopher Floyd Woody and wife Maggie, Joshua Woody and Fiance Olivia Knight, Brittany Hipp and husband Nick, Destiny Peace and husband Jessy and Logan Matthew Woody; her great grandchildren Adrianna, Brianna, Saint, Brody, Dakota, Tayla, Landon and Khloe; her brothers Floyd Bryan Chambers, Jr. and wife Bunny of Oklahoma City and Jerry Chambers and wife Charolette of Claremore; sister-in-laws Jenny Calvert and husband Harold and Mamie Magness all of Texas. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Marie Chambers and mother and father-in-law Olgie and Julia Woody and brother-in-law Floyd Magness.
