Sonny Thorne

Funeral service for Herbert Wayne "Sonny" Thorne will be 10 a.m., Thurs., June 20, at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel with Pastor Kevin Lewis officiating. Burial with military honors by the U.S. Army will follow at the Thorne Family Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 1-5 p.m.

Sonny passed away Mon., June 17, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, at the age of 64.

The son of Herbert Marion and Elorna Aileen (Bigfeather) Thorne was born June 23, 1948, in Spiro. Sonny graduated from Atwater High School in Atwater, CA, in 1967. While in high school he enjoyed playing sports, especially baseball. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army for five years where he was stationed in Korea. On July 17, 1970, Sonny married Pamela Lynn McGhee. After Sonny was discharged from the Army he came back to California where he worked in his father-in-law's restaurant for a couple of years. The family moved to Oklahoma in 1973, where Sonny worked in construction. In 1995, Sonny met Marcia Michelle Maxwell. They were married in 2000. He enjoyed baseball and watching Redskin football. Sonny also enjoyed being outdoors fishing, camping, raising pigeons, and always had a big garden.

Sonny is preceded in death by his parents; son, Sonny Wayne Thorne; and brothers: Conrad and R.B. Hooper.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia of the home; children: Chelene Rogers and husband, Paul of Claremore, Jessica Thorne of Tulsa, and Jasmine Thorne of the home; step-children: Nichole Kidd and husband, Shaman of Tulsa, Cass Gaskins of the home, and Jennifer Bennett and husband, Jonathon of Tulsa; siblings: Velma Harris and husband, Douglas of Claremore, Cheryl Voss and husband, Edsel of Ft. Gibson, Ricky Thorne of Claremore, Sharon Matheson and husband, Steve of Inola, and Verna Noble and husband, Dick of Bixby; and grandchildren: Miranda Thorne, Brett McClendon, Cameron Glen, Miley Rogers, Tryden Kidd, and Jonathon Bennett.
