Sue Ellen Garrett was born March 22, 1956, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Euwell Davis and Betty Ellen (Rhoads) Tharp. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to graduate from Chelsea High School in the class of 1974. Continuing her educational path, Sue graduated from Claremore Junior College in 1976 and later went on to achieve a degree in education from Northeastern State University in 1978.
On December 25, 1976, Sue exchanged vows with the love of her life, William Garrett. They met during their time at Claremore Junior College and together raised their beloved daughter. Sue cherished their family moments and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Sue's journey was one filled with dedication and passion for education. She graced the halls of various schools including Chelsea, Vinita, Sequoyah, Ralston, Coffeyville, and Coweta. It was in Coweta where she spent a remarkable 18 years sharing her knowledge with students who adored her. Besides her teaching career, Sue also found joy in serving her church community as a part-time secretary for the last three years at First Baptist Chelsea.
In her leisure hours, Sue enjoyed playing bingo and indulging in the captivating stories penned by Danielle Steele.
Sue leaves behind a legacy that will forever be treasured by those she held dear. She is preceded in death by her parents, Euwell and Betty Tharp; her husband William Garrett; and her brother Jerry Tharp.
Those who continue to carry Sue's memory include her daughter Dallas West and son-in-law Luke; grandchildren Jaylie West, Levi West, and Daygan West; sister Ruth Harrell and brother-in-law Mike; sisters-in-law Fran Tharp, Pat Anderson, and Linda Collie; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a vast extended family.
