Funeral service for Jess Duane "Tex" Johns will be 1 p.m., Fri., Feb. 17, at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel with Rev. Charles Watashe officiating. Burial will follow at Winganon Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thurs. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.
Tex died Mon., Feb. 13, 2012, at his home at the age of 57.
The son of Chester Leroy and Kathryn Florene (Link) Johns was born June 16, 1954, in Nowata. Tex was raised in the Winganon area and attended Waller, Chelsea, and Alluwe schools. He graduated from Alluwe High School in 1972. Tex later moved to Tulsa and worked as a welder for Kaiser Magnesium. In 1986, he married Shirley Ann Burkart in Miami. They made their home in Winganon before moving to Oologah in 1998. Tex has worked for RSO-PSO for the past 4 years as a millwright/mechanic. He loved riding Harley's, hunting, fishing, and being out on the water.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Ralph Johns.
Tex is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Johns of the home; son, Rex Jacobs and wife, Danielle of Sequoyah; daughter, Jamie McKee and husband, Jason of Owasso; brother, Jim Johns and wife, Patsy of Owasso; sister-in-law, Susie Johns of Tulsa; grandchildren: Alisha, Andrew, Wyatt, Wade, Dalton, Caleb, Chloe, and one on the way, Destiny; 2 nieces, 1 nephew, and several cousins.
