At that time Tommy was working for Redman Mobile Homes as a carpenter. He eventually started working as a mechanic for Jack Kissee Ford. He worked there for nearly 20 years before he retired.

In his spare time Tommy had many pastimes. Spending time in the outdoors was one of his favorites. Deer hunting, fishing and mowing the lawn were a few of his activities. He also loved watching tv. Pro Bull Riding, old westerns, and when the grandkids were around it was spongebob squarepants. However just being near his children and grandchildren was what he loved most of all.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie and Samuel Barnes; son, Samuel Barnes and sisters, Ramona Hipp and Vivian (Lanora) Wooten.
