Funeral service for Thomas Barnes will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2015 at the Friendly Foyil Baptist Church. Pastor Mike Clark will officiate. Burial will follow at Wards Grove Cemetery under the direction of the MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
Tommy passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at the age of 72.
Thomas Sidney Barnes was born May 2, 1943 in Chelsea, Oklahoma. He was the son of Samuel T. and Bonnie England Barnes. He was raised in the rural Foyil area, where he attended Bushyhead and Foyil schools. It was there in Foyil one Sunday afternoon while at a church softball game, that he met Leah Pendergraft. She was the love of his life, and they married on May 4, 1964 at his parents home. They made their home in the community where they were raised. At that time Tommy was working for Redman Mobile Homes as a carpenter. He eventually started working as a mechanic for Jack Kissee Ford. He worked there for nearly 20 years before he retired.
In his spare time Tommy had many pastimes. Spending time in the outdoors was one of his favorites. Deer hunting, fishing and mowing the lawn were a few of his activities. He also loved watching tv. Pro Bull Riding, old westerns, and when the grandkids were around it was spongebob squarepants. However just being near his children and grandchildren was what he loved most of all.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie and Samuel Barnes; son, Samuel Barnes and sisters, Ramona Hipp and Vivian (Lanora) Wooten.
Survivors include his wife Leah of the home, son, William Barnes of Claremore, daughter, Charlotte Betts and husband Jeff of Chelsea; daughter-in-law, Tandra Barnes of Claremore, sister, Doris Hull and husband Steve of Chelsea; grandchildren, Jesse Barnes of Claremore, Stephanie Blatchley and husband Dustin of Ft. Worth, Texas, Thomas Todd of Claremore, Kenzie Barker and husband Sean of Claremore, Alex Barnes of Claremore, Samantha Barnes of Claremore and great-grandchildren, Matt, Maddie and Abel of Ft. Worth, Texas along with many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
