Graveside service for Thomas Conrad will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2021, at Greenleaf Cemetery in Tahlequah. Visitation will be at MMS-Payne Funeral Home in Claremore from 1-7 p.m. on Thursday, September 16, with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. Thomas peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 13, 2021. He was 91 years old.
The son of Meddley Jefferson and Emma (Rider) Conrad was born in Braggs, Oklahoma on January 26, 1930. He attended Bagley High School in Tahlequah, where he played football and baseball, graduating in 1949. He loved baseball so much that he coached his sons' little league teams. After high school, he attended Northeastern State University for 2 1/2 years, and also served his country as a corporal in the US Army during the Korean conflict.
On April 23, 1954, Thomas married Ethel Elizabeth Hilton in Tahlequah. They celebrated 67 years of marriage this year. Thomas worked as a warehouse supervisor for the state highway department until his retirement in 1988. He and Ethel were faithful 67-year members of Claremore Church of Christ, where Thomas served as a deacon, and as head of the food pantry for many years.
In his spare time, Thomas enjoyed fishing and squirrel hunting, mowing yards, and spending time with friends and family. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Mary Conrad, Gladys Kincade, Louise Conrad, Edith Ryan, Ralph Conrad, Gene Conrad, and Meddley Conrad, Jr.; grandson Jonathan Robertson; daughter-in-law Pam Conrad; son-in-law Roger Grigg; and former son-in-law Rick Robertson.
Those left to mourn his passing include his wife Ethel; children Thomas Larry Conrad, Jeffrey Conrad and wife Shari, Micheal Conrad and wife Stacey, Sharon Robertson, and Pattie Grigg; grandchildren Christopher Conrad and wife Amanda, Cody Springer and Kelly, T.J. Grigg and wife Melissa, Amy Robertson and Mike, Christina Robertson and Rob, Dakota Conrad, Cierra Conrad, Aurora Conrad, Montana Conrad, and Conner Conrad; great-grandchildren Stephanie Conrad, Victoria Conrad, Hunter Conrad, C.J. Springer, Alyssa Springer, Kaleb Grigg, Kyler Grigg, and Oakley McGann; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones.
