Funeral service for Thomas Orris Duncan, Jr. will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Inola. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at the Inola Funeral Home Chapel. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m.
Thomas Duncan Jr. went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the age of 81.
The son of Thomas and Virginia Atchley Duncan was born November 29, 1935 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As a young boy he was raised in Tulsa. He attended Will Rogers High School, graduating in 1953. It was also in school that he met Beverly Rose, the love of his life. They became high school sweethearts, and were married September 5, 1953 in Sapulpa. The newlywed couple made their home in Tulsa, where Thom was working for OTASCO.
In 1962, Thom accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. This quickly led him into the ministry. In 1963, he began as a circuit preacher, traveling between, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, and Kansas. A short time later, he took his first full-time position at Wright City, Oklahoma. Over the next several years, his ministry would move several times to places such as Purcell, Saranac Lake, New York, and finally to Inola in 1971. For several years, Thom pastored in Inola, before being called to move once again. This time he moved to Tulsa, Okmulgee, back to Inola, and finally to Big Cabin, where he officially retired in 2005. After retirement, Thom moved to Prague to live near his son.
In his spare time, Thom enjoyed fishing, gardening, family and friends, but most importantly, he loved preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Virginia Duncan, wife, Beverly Duncan and granddaughter, Jamie Trosky.
Survivors include his children, Pam Anderson of Shawnee, Kristie Turner and husband Bobby of Inola and Tommy Duncan and wife Cynthia of Prague; grandchildren, Trinity Addy and Kevin Rowe, Amanda Jones Duncan, Tamara Wooten, Tommy Lee Duncan, Jr. and wife Heather, Tiffany Hamilton and husband Chad, Tod Duncan and wife Bethany, Tyler Duncan and wife Danyelle, Kaylee Jo Cummins and husband Aaron, and Zac Trosky; great-grandchildren, Triston, Emma, and Ethan Trosky, Skylar and Dakota Sams, Lane Addy, William James Wooten, Wyatt Duncan, Raegan Turner and Lyla Duncan, Jaylynn Duncan, Javoni Duncan, Jacob Duncan,Ty Randall Hamilton, Tyson Duncan and Benton Cummins, and Virginia Balisle Duncan of Wood Manor.
