On Friday May 25th Thomas Wade Thurman, beloved father, son, grandpa, uncle, brother, and friend walked through heavens gates after a courageous battle with ALS. Tom was 63 years old.
Thomas Wade Thurman the son of Ray and Joyce Maloy Thurman was born October 27, 1954 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As a young boy he and his family lived in Claremore. There he would later attend Claremore Public Schools graduating with the class of 1973. After graduation he worked a bit as a painter, before joining the Claremore Fire Department. However after years of service a injury forced him to retire. He then began another career working as a oil pumper for Devon Energy. Tom then moved back to Claremore to help care for his mother. In 2017 after his diagnosis of ALS he moved back to Seminole to be near his daughters and grandchildren.
In his spare time Tom loved being in the outdoors. A few of his favorite activities were crawfish fishing at blue hole, camping, and boating. He also enjoyed eating. He always looked forward to fish fries, and the occasional back strap. Tom was also very funny and a likeable guy. Everyone he met he made smile. This stayed true to the end. During his final weeks with hospice he made his nurses smile on many occasions. However as much as he loved all those things, his family was always first, and they all admit that he spoiled them.
He will forever be remembered by his 2 daughters and their spouses, Melissa and Matt Garner and Beth and Richard Parks; grandchildren Josh and Britni Parks, Jaxon, Hudson, and Mattison Garner all of Seminole; his mother Joyce Thurman; brother Mike Thurman and Phyllis all of Claremore; sister and brother-in-law Diana and Sean Day of Clovis, California; one niece and many nephews and too many wonderful extended family and friends to list.
Tom was preceded in death by his father Ray Thurman and nephew Zach.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MDA Neuromuscular Center, 4221 S. Western Ave., Suite 5000, Oklahoma City, OK 73109.
We would like to acknowledge Seminole Care and Rehab where he had many that went above and beyond and spoiled him. They loved him and he loved them. Also Faith Hospice, Danya, Becky, Angie, and Brett for their amazing support and compassion. They didn’t leave dad’s side during his last days.
