Service for Tommie Graham will be 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Memorial Heights Baptist Church; burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday, April 8 from 1pm-8pm, with family receiving visitors from 6pm-8pm. Tommie passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019. She was 81.
Born October 22, 1937 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Luther and Lorene (Girdner) Hendrickson, Tommie attended school in Catoosa, where she graduated with the class of 1956. She married her high school sweetheart, Olan Lee Graham, on May 18, 1956 and the couple made their home in Broken Arrow. The same year that Olan began teaching in Bristow, he and Tommie bought her father's grocery store on the west side of Claremore, and together they operated Graham Grocery.
Tommie studied education at Northeastern State, and when she finished her degree she began teaching 4th grade at Sequoyah Schools. Later she became the school's librarian until her retirement in 1995. Tommie was not one to stay idle, so she worked for a time with Reeds Department Store. Her calling, you might say, was working for Rice Funeral Home, where she greeted families with a warm and comforting embrace during visitations.
There were so many sides to Tommie Graham. She was the supportive wife of a school superintendent, loving and caring mother to her daughters and granddaughters, and a wonderful friend to many. Tommie was a faithful member of Memorial Heights Baptist Church, she volunteered many hours at the Claremore hospital auxiliary, and was involved with the OSU Home Extension. Tommie was very involved with her community, but what brought her the most joy was being with her family. She rarely missed any activity her granddaughters participated in, and traveled many places to cheer them on. She was a great baker and even entered her pies in the local fair, winning several ribbons.
Tommie leaves behind her daughters, Debbie Weber and husband John of Broken Arrow, and Lynse Robinson and husband Charlie of Claremore; her beloved granddaughters Leslie Weber of Oklahoma City, and Carly Robinson of Stillwater; her sister June Purdom, also of Claremore, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Olan, sister Jean DiCandeloro and brother Roy Hendrickson.
