Services for Tommy Roberts will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church in Oologah.
Tommy Gene Roberts passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024, in Claremore, at the age of 86.
Tommy was born on May 1, 1938 to William and Waunita (Harrington) Roberts. He was raised in the Oologah area, where he attended Prairie Grove Elementary and later attended Oologah High School. Known for his strong work ethic from an early age, Tommy worked on a local farm while still in school. After high school, he began his career at Spartan, and eventually went on to work at Gateway Luggage in Claremore, where he climbed the ranks to plant manager. When the plant closed, Tommy transitioned to working as a machinist at Tulsa Centerless, where he dedicated many years until he retired. Despite his retirement, Tommy remained active and found a new role at Pest Off in Claremore, where he mentored numerous employees over the years.
Tommy and Shirley Ann Barnes were married on August 31, 1981, where they built a loving home in the Claremore area and have resided for more than 40 years
. Tommy was a man of deep faith. He was ordained as a minister on August 17, 1961, and dedicated much of his life to serving his community through the church. His first ministry was at New Hope Church in Claremore, followed by Zion Hill in Oologah. Tommy’s warm heart and devotion to his faith allowed him to reach and help many people in need throughout the years.In his spare time, Tommy enjoyed reading his Bible, western dancing, and camping with Shirley at Flat Rock on Lake Ft. Gibson. He also enjoyed his involvement with the Sons of the American Legion, where he formed many meaningful friendships. Tommy was a dedicated family man, always ensuring his family was cared for. He loved to take daily drives, always dropping by to visit with friends and family.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, William and Waunita Roberts; his daughter, Sheri Roberts; grandson, Randy Morris; brothers, Martin, Billy, and James Roberts; and sisters, Dorothy Dorsey, Irene Scott, and Norma Roberts
.He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley; daughters, Connie Hensley, Mary Bilby and husband David, Tammy Elam, Kelli Morris and husband Randy, and Dawn Long and husband Bruce; son, Brian Andersen and wife Kristen; grandchildren, Mary Ann, Monica, Raegan, McKayla, Summer, Chloe, Colton, Sheridan, Maverick, Tiffi, Andersen, Hannah, Brian, and Kevin; 14 great-grandchildren; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Tommy was a man of integrity, faith, and deep love for his family and community. His presence will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
