Funeral service for Veda Jewel Burns will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 21, 2011 at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel. Pastor Mike Clark will officiate. Burial will follow at Wards Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Burns passed away Friday, November 18, 2011 at Claremore Nursing Home at the age of 93.
The daughter of James and Ora Chapman Lewis was born October 13, 1918 in Booneville, Arkansas. As a young girl she and her family moved to rural Rogers county. There she attended the Love and Foyil schools. A few years later she met Glen Alby Burns. They were married August 3, 1937 in Foyil. It was a full time job helping Glen run the family farm, but for a short time she even worked at Wood Manor nursing home. After years on the farm she and Glenn sold the farm and moved into Foyil. In her spare time she enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, and quilting.
She is preceded in death by her parents James and Ora; husband, Glen; sisters, Luada Lewis and Retha Burns; brother, Richard Lewis, nieces, Shirley Smith and Mavis Sheppard; nephews, Ty Burns and Eddie Lewis; brother-in-laws, Vic, Herb, Ed, Noel and Ewin Burns, and sister-in-laws, Ruby, Frances, and Minnie Burns and Melba and Mildred Lewis.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Lillian Burns, Nieces and nephews, Wanda Derosia, Mervin Burns, Leota McSpadden, Juanita Brown, Laverne Desper, Lola McMillian, Charles Roy Burns, Gayle Burns, Opal Brashears, Deanna Simpson, Doug Burns, Johnny Gifford, Alneta Mitchell, Glenn Howard Burns, Carrie Rizley and Pam Ward, and many other great nieces and nephews.
