Graveside service for Vernon Scott Smith, Jr. will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2013 at Highland Cemetery in Inola. Visitation will be at Inola Funeral Home and Crematory on Wednesday, November 27, from 1--5.

Vernon passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the age of 72.

The son of Vernon Scott and Vera Pauline (Conder) Smith, Vernon was born on November 14, 1941in Wagoner County. He married Mary " Geneva" Perkins on August 5, 1966 and the couple made Pryor their home. Vernon attended Spartan School of Aeronautics and became an aeronautic mechanic. Later he became a truck driver and retired from US Express Enterprises. When time allowed, Vernon loved to fish and spent many hours working in his garden. He enjoyed treasure hunting at the local antique shops and he never let his cars get dirty. He made sure that no matter how old they were he kept them looking as good as new. He instilled in his children the meaning of hard work and doing the right thing always.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, son David Smith and granddaughters Amanda and Amelia.

Those family members that survive include his wife Geneva Smith of Pawhuska; daughter Lisa D. Partain of Locus Grove; sons Jimmy Cooper and wife Teresa also of Pawhuska and Daniel Cooper and wife Hannah of Peggs.
