Funeral service for Violet Lee "Vi" Lane will be 10 a.m., Fri., Dec. 28, at First Baptist Church of Dewar with Rev. Jack Vance officiating. Burial will follow at Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thurs. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 5-7 p.m.
Vi died Fri., Dec. 21, 2012, at Claremore Nursing Home at the age of 90.
The daughter of George Silsby and Judy Jane (Reed) Kirkpatrick was born Oct. 21, 1922 in Yeager. She graduated from Okmulgee High School, and on Jan. 7, 1942, she married William "Roy" Lane in Okmulgee. When Roy entered the military to serve the country during World War II, Vi went to California where she worked as a welder on ships in California. After the war, Vi and Roy lived in several different places in Oklahoma and Texas before making their home in Duncanville, TX. Vi attended college in Commerce, TX, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught Special Education in the Junior High in Duncanville for several years. In 1999, the couple moved to Claremore. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, and Teachers Retirement Service member. She enjoyed country western music, and reading.
Vi was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her parents; and sister, Celeste Winn.
She is survived by her sons: Dennis Roy Lane and wife, Shirley, and Gary Dale Lane and wife, Tammy all of Claremore; grandchildren: Cyndi Eagleton, Jeff Lane and wife, Mary, Chanda Lane, and Taylor Lane; and great-grandchildren: Jake Lane, Erin Eagleton, Malea Lane, Will Lane, Madison, and Easton.
