Funeral service for Virginia Mae Janos will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 2, 2011 at Memorial Heights Baptist Church. Pastor Paul Simpson will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the directon of the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service and Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thurs. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.
Virginia passed away Monday, November 28, 2011 in Claremore at the age of 86.
Virginia Mae Janos the fourth child of Clarence and Rena Gilbert Kirkley was born October 4, 1925 in Claremore, Oklahoma. She was raised in Claremore, and graduated from Claremore High School. Wanting to continue her education she enrolled at Oklahoma Baptist University. A short time later she took a job working for Southwestern Bell Telephone locally. She met a young Army service man Ted Janos who just returned from overseas. He went back overseas and they continued to correspond through letters. Once Ted was discharged, Virginia transferred to New York. They were married on Sept. 19, 1945, at Neppheran Avenue Baptist Church in Yonkers, New York. After three years in New York, she and her family moved to Claremore. She and Ted were charter members of Memorial Heights Baptist Church. There she taught Sunday school for many years. Her interests included writing letters to friends and relatives, and visiting with friends at the Senior Citizens Center.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Rena Kirkley; son, Michael Joseph Janos; and siblings, Liddie Lewis, Bob Kirkley, Jess Kirkley, and Eugene Kirkley.
Survivors include her husband, Ted of the home; son, Mark of Claremore; granddaughters, Chrisanna Prescott and husband, Anthony of Jacksonville, FL, Kama Wilson of Broken Arrow, Jessica Janos and Danielle Mobra of Rogers, AR; great-grandchildren: Andy, Moriah, Christopher, and Zachary Prescott, Rachel, Seth, Rebecca, and Anna Wilson, Jacinda and Jalissa Janos, and Tayler Mobra; sisters: Dorothy Chapman, and Letha McDonald; and brother, Curtis Kirkley and wife, Katherine.
