Funeral services for Dorothy Virginia Wheeler will be 11 a.m., Wed., Nov. 24, at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel with Rev. Charlie Lehman officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Virginia died Sun., Nov. 21, 2010, at Claremore Regional Hospital at the age of 84.
The daughter of G.C. and Lula (Taylor) Valentine was born Jan. 28, 1926, in Wapanucka, Oklahoma and graduated from Wapanucka High School. During World War II, Virginia went to work as a "Rosie the Riveter" at Douglas Aircraft, where she met Billy Joe Wheeler. They were married on June 2, 1945, and lived in Tulsa before moving to Verdigris in 1962. Virginia loved crocheting, gardening, canning her own vegetables, and spending time with her family.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Billy Joe; and her sisters: Catherine Stobaugh and Alta Armstrong.
She is survived by her son, Bill Wheeler and wife, Mary Ann of Broken Arrow; grandchildren: Scott Wheeler and wife, Gina of Tulsa, Michelle Carter and husband, John of Kingwood, TX, and Amy Kirkland and husband, Chase of Broken Arrow; 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
