Funeral service for Vonda Nadine Shell will be 10 a.m., Thurs., Aug. 5, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Janelle Brammer officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 1-8 p.m.
Vonda was preceded in death by her husband, L.B. "Berton" Shell; son, Ben Shell; grandson, Craig Shell; and sisters: Veta Urie, May Simmons, and Lena Shell.
Vonda died Mon., Aug. 2, 2010, at Claremore Nursing Home at the age of 86.
The daughter of Eulys and Annie May (Simmons) Lawrence, Vonda was born March 28, 1924, in Picher, OK. Vonda was a homemaker, a 60 year member of the First United Methodist Church, and active in many local civic organizations including the Rebecca Lodge, Good Sam Club, Elks Lodge, and Tulsa Moose Lodge. She decorated cakes and catered weddings for over 30 years and enjoyed teaching cake decorating classes at the local Vo-Tech and Junior College. Vonda was a talented artist working in charcoal, pastel, oil and several other mediums and was a member of the Three Rivers Art Association.
Vonda is survived by her sons: Dallas Shell and wife, Paula of Claremore, Sam Shell and wife, Diane of Claremore, Eulys "Cricket" Shell and wife, Nilsa of El Paso, TX; daughter-in-law, Janice Wilton of Broken Arrow; brother, William "Bill" Lawrence of Ft. Scott, KS; sister, Blanche Harlin of Commerce, OK; 9 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
