Service for W.R. “Dub” Garner will be 2:00p.m., Friday, Nov. 20, 2015 at Catoosa Christian Center, burial will follow at Dick Duck Cemetery under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 19 from 1pm--8pm, with family receiving visitors from 6pm--8pm. W. R. passed away at his home on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015 at the age of 81.
William “W. R.” Garner was born November 5, 1934 in Humphrey, Arkansas to Veston and Jimmy Lillie Marie (Brown) Garner. He graduated from White Hall High School near Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Following his graduation, W. R. enlisted in the US Army and proudly served his country. In 1962 he married Betty M. Brannon, of Pryor, and the couple moved to several different parts of Oklahoma with his work before they settled in Catoosa, and this has been home since. W. R. was employed with M.J. Lee Construction until retirement, where he worked building bridges.
When W. R. wasn’t hard at work, he enjoyed building things. He was a master at woodworking and his talents showed in the remodeling of his home and many different woodworking projects. He was excellent at repairing small motors and was always up for the challenge of a problem to solve.
A loving and caring husband, father, brother and friend, W. R. is survived by his wife Betty of their home; his son Dwain Merle Garner; his daughter Kimberly Annette Bateman and husband Tom his grandchildren Aubrey Danielle Garner, Ashtyn Brayden Garner, Stephen Micheal Potter, Austin James Tinkey, Cassandra Bateman, Moddasy Bateman, and Thomas Bateman; his sister Lola Sappington and husband Dwight. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Kathryn Leoda Garner, Jimmy Veston Garner, Betty Lou Stallings and Dwight D. Garner and his niece Michele Lou Ann Sappington and his nephew Michael Anthony Garner.
