Wanda Mae Flood

Funeral service for Wanda Mae Flood will be 10 a.m., Thurs., Oct. 29, at First Baptist Church of Chelsea with Pastor Joe Stith officiating. Burial will follow at Chelsea Cemetery under the direction of Chelsea Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 601 Vine, Chelsea, OK. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.

Wanda passed away Sun., Oct. 25, 2015, at Hillcrest Hospital, Tulsa, at the age of 82.

The daughter of Henry Whitfield and Dora Mae (Hann) Whitfield was born Dec. 24, 1932, in Vinita. She attended Vinita schools to the eighth grade when she went to help her brother, who lost his wife during childbirth, take care of his children and his home. She later worked at a local restaurant as a waitress. She married the love of her life, Gene Paul Flood, on Sept. 29, 1955, at the courthouse in Vinita. They made their home in Chelsea, before moving to Miami for a couple years, and then back to Chelsea where they raised their children. Wanda was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chelsea where she helped in the nursery and during Vacation Bible School. Wanda enjoyed watching her hummingbirds, and raising her plants and roses. She also enjoyed taking care of her home, baking pies, and Cherokee Indian basket weaving. Wanda loved spending time with her family playing cards and Rummikub. She helped to raise four of her grandchildren, and loved to spoil all her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband to Branson where they enjoyed watching the music shows, and camping.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings: J.D. Whitfield, Henry Whitfield, Jr., Mary Alice Whitfield, Jimmy Whitfield, Terry Whitfield, Juanita Gagat, and Nancy Owens.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Gene of the home; children: Patricia Woodward and husband, Michael of Monument, CO, David Flood of Alluwe, Shelly Flood and wife, Charlotte Stith Flood of Catoosa, and Paula Garner-Flood and wife, Lisa Garner-Flood of Tulsa; siblings: Dorothy Donovant of Grove, Robert Whitfield of Vinita, C.S. Whitfield and wife, Jeannette of Tulsa, and Linda Collins of Vinita; grandchildren: Derek Woodward, Ashley Flood, Meagan Holt and husband, Michael, Daphne Flood, Craig Flood, Cooper Flood, Michael Flood, and Cassidy Flood; and great-grandchildren: Aleijah, Makenzie, Kamran, Addison and William Lafoon, Tyler Holt, Emmett Flood, and Layton Duwel.
