Memorial service for Wanda Shank will be 10:30, Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Claremore First Baptist Church. Wanda passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024. She was 82.
Wanda Lou Shank was born on July 31, 1941, in Claremore, Oklahoma, one of 10 children to William Walter and Lena Katherine (Phelps) Vann; Wanda's journey was marked by resilience and an unyielding spirit. She was raised in the Inola area, starting school at Willeo, she later attended school in Inola, graduating with the class of 1959. Wanda married O.A. Shank on June 11, 1961, and together they raised two daughters. The family lived in Tulsa in their early years and moved to Claremore in 1972, where she has lived since.
She embarked on a multifaceted career path that showcased her boundless capabilities. From owning beauty salons to running a retail shop, travel agency, and tour company in Claremore, Wanda's entrepreneurial drive knew no bounds. Her tenacity and determination were truly admirable.
In the realm of education, Wanda pursued cosmetology school in Claremore after her youngest daughter started grade school and graduated at the top of her class—a testament to her commitment to excellence. Her thirst for knowledge and personal growth was truly inspiring.
Wanda's love for adventure and exploration knew no bounds. She cherished car rides, collecting unique rocks, and organizing exciting bus tours for seniors. Her joy knew no bounds when she saw her seniors relishing various activities and attending events like the War Eagle Craft Fair. A proud advocate of Claremore and Will Rogers heritage, Wanda's Cherokee roots held a special place in her heart.
Family was the cornerstone of Wanda's life. She adored hosting dinners for loved ones and took immense pride in her daughters—who were the light of her life.
Her legacy lives on through her daughters Terri Buscher (Mike) and Tammy Shank (Melissa Robinson), grandchildren Brandon Buscher (Mikaela), Nathan Buscher (Courtney), Naomi Robinson, great grandson Forest Buscher, husband O.A. Shank, siblings, Jessie Reddell, Helen Waldroop, Jack Vann, brother and sisters-in-law Wearthy Shank (Wanda) and Leona McAfee, and a host of nieces and nephews and other extended family members. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Lena, siblings Lola Wickham, Shirley Froese, Billie Vann, Jimmy Vann, Gladys Lawson, and Jerry Vann, and special friend Don O'Roark.
