Wayne Richison, Muskogee, 90 years old, was born May 20, 1919, in Stigler. He graduated from Stigler High School in 1938; and that same year he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and honorably discharged. Before the war he met Freida Kate Hampton in Muskogee, and they were married on April 12, 1942. During World War II he served 3-1/2 years in the Army Air Corps where he attained the rank of Master Sergeant. Following World War II he served 3 years in the Army Air Corps Reserves. Wayne was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Muskogee where he was Deacon Emeritus and served God faithfully. He also served as Director of the Senior Adult Co-Ed Sunday school class. He was a member of Oriental Lodge #430 for 57 years and the McAlester Consistory. Wayne was a 32nd degree Mason. He was retired from the VA Hospital of Muskogee where he was Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Staff. Wayne was a wood carver and taught wood carving for several years. He also enjoyed oil painting, hunting, fishing, and was a member of OSU Master Gardeners. Wayne enjoyed helping people with their gardening problems. He is a past member of the Muskogee Civitan Club and was Lt. Governor of the Oklahoma-Kansas Civitan District.
Wayne passed away Mon., May 17, 2010.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Freida in 1996, his parents, 2 brothers, and 4 sisters.
He is survived by his daughter, Nan Haynes and husband, Fred; sons: Curtis and Douglas Richison; grandchildren: Chris Richison, Sabrina Procell and her husband, Harley, Rachel Leonard and her husband, Chris, Lindsey Taylor and her husband, Brad, Nicholas Haynes and his wife, Eloisa, Jamie Haynes, and Blake Haynes; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Kenneth Richison of Okla. City; niece, Peggy Schaubert and her husband, Jerry; nephew, Randy Richison; special friend, Hazel Cagle; and other family, Pam and Mike Upton.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Wed., May 19, at First Baptist Church, Muskogee, with Dr. Don Jones officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Muskogee, under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory, Claremore. Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church Parlor, Muskogee, Tues. 4-8 p.m.
