Memorial service for William "Carl" Hamilton will be 4 p.m., Tues., Sept. 27, at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel. His son-in-law, Chuck Dial, will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army. He received a bronze star and many other awards for his service at the end of WWII in Germany. He loved to paint and attended art schools in Bamburg, Germany and a degree from the Kansas City Art Institute.
Carl died Fri., Sept. 23, 2011, at the Claremore Veterans Center at the age of 85.
The son of Riley Mont and Rillie Jane (Fipps) Hamilton was born July 15, 1926, in Madill, OK. Carl retired from Amoco Research and Development in Tulsa, where he was a draftsman and artist. He had also worked for Sinclair and the Army Map Service. In the early 1950s, he prospected for uranium in Nevada and New Mexico with only a Jeep and mule. Carl loved being outdoors, especially on his ranch, the “Ponderosa”. He was an artist, enjoyed golfing, playing the fiddle, and raised cattle for many years. He could befriend any animal he met, and had quite a green thumb. He could survive any climate or terrain, but heart disease finally found him in the last few years.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents; and 3 brothers.
He is survived by his daughters: Carla Dial and husband, Chuck of Lee’s Summit, MO and, Kathleen Hinton of Kansas City, KS; sisters: Mary Gilleland of Collinsville, and Nina Styers of Sapulpa; 3 grandchildren, Jessica Dial, Hayley and Nathan Hinton, and 1 great-grandchild, Madison Elizabeth Dial.
