Funeral service for William "Roy" Lane will be 11 a.m., Wed., Nov. 16, at First Baptist Church of Dewar with Rev. Jack Vance officiating. Burial with military honors by the U.S. Army will follow at Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tues. 1-7 p.m., and family will greet friends 5-7 p.m.
Roy died Fri., Nov. 11, 2011, at Claremore Regional Hospital at the age of 90.
The son of William Larkin and Ruth Ann (Chronister) Lane was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Slick. He graduated from Wilson High School, and continued his education at Texas A&M where he received a Bachelor's degree in education. On Jan. 7, 1942, Roy married Violet Lee Kirkpatrick in Okmulgee. Roy served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He taught Juniors & Seniors in Vocational Electronics at Duncanville High School, Duncanville, TX. Roy was a past member of the Kiwanis Club, a member of City Council in Wetumka and Teachers Retirement Service. In 1999,Roy and Violet made their home in Claremore. Roy enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and building cabinets. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings: Ralph Lane, Hubert Lane, Glen Lane, Estola Billbe, and Bernice Hodges.
He is survived by his wife, Violet of the home; sons: Dennis Roy Lane and wife, Shirley, and Gary Dale Lane and wife, Tammy all of Claremore; grandchildren: Cyndi Eagleton of Claremore, Jeff Lane and wife, Mary of Jenks, Taylor Lane of Claremore, and Shanda Lane of Ft. Worth, TX; great-grandchildren: Jake Lane, Erin Eagleton, Malea Lane, and Will Lane; and sister, Lorene McCollum of Borger, TX.
